Top 50 commodities imported by India is led by Mineral Fuels, Mineral Oils And Products Of Their Distillation; Bituminous Substances; Mineral Waxes. India’s export bill rise to 27.47% in 2017-18 in comparison to 2016017 when it was 26.84%. Rise in export bill is attributed to high price of crude oil.
Second in imported list is Natural Or Cultured Pearls,Precious Or Semiprecious Stone. This is not all imported for internal consumption but polished and exported by India. Rise in natural or cultured pearls is good sign as it indicate that export will get boom and Indian workers will get work. It registered 25% growth and import in India rise from 13.98% in 2016-17 to 16.28 % in 2017-18.

Third in Import list is Electrical Machinery And Equipment And Parts Thereof; Sound Recorders And Reproducers, Television Image And Sound Recorders And Reproducers,And Parts. ‘Make in India’ have taken back seat and this category rose to 10.56% of total import bill as compared to 10.04% in previous financial year.
Fourth in The list is Nuclear Reactors, Boilers, Machinery And Mechanical Appliances. Import in this category has fallen to 8.13% of total import bill from 8.35% in financial year 2016-17.
Fifth in the list is Organic Chemicals. Organic chemical import bill is 4.13% in FY 2017-18 as compared to 4.03% in 2016-17. Interestingly India rework on organic chemicals and export to world. India export 4.71% of its export bill to world. Make in India playing a positive role here.
In the list sixth and seventh position is held by plastic which is 3.02% and Animal Or Vegetable Fats And Oils And Their Cleavage Products; Pre. Edible Fats; Animal Or Vegetable Waxex which is at 2.64%.
Eight, ninth and tenth position is held by Iron And Steel (at 2.31%), Optical, Photographic Cinematographic Measuring, Checking Precision, Medical Or Surgical Inst (at 1.89%) and Ores, Slag And Ash (at 1.4%)
