What India Imports : Top 10 Commodities ( 2015-2016)

India Imports Mineral fuels. toys, Gadgets, Fertilizers, Nuclear plants and thousands of such commodities to met domestic need. we shall Analyze top 10 commodities imported by India to meet requirement. It must be noted that these ten commodities count 75% of total import by India.

  1. Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes constitute import of INR 632021.88 Crores. It is 25% of total import done by India.
  2. Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semiprecious stones,precious metals, clad with precious metal and articles thereof jewelry;coin.  are Imported worth INR 369480 Crores. It basically shows Indians love for precious metal say Gold n Silver. It is 40% of total Import done by India.
  3. Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers and parts are imported worth INR 235586 and is almost 10% of total Import done by India.
  4. India is trying to build Nuclear power plant in order to build capacity equipment and machinery is needed so at No 4 is Nulear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof. These equipment were imported worth Rs. 215429 crores. it was 8.65% of total imports.
  5. Organic Chemicals were Imported worth Rs. 101986 crores and were at 5th place of total spend on account of Import in 2015-16.
  6. Plastic and Article there of were imported worth INR 74566 Crores and this category were at 6th place.
  7. Iron and steel are at seventh place, India could have controlled this import category as India do have ore reserves. It was also case with coal, though India is in top 5 coal reserves however faulty policies by government forced power producers to import coal from abroad. India spent Rs. 73558 crores for this commodity.
  8. Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products; pre-edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes were imported worth Rs. 68927 crores.
  9. Optical, photographic cinematographic measuring, checking precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus parts and accessories thereof occupied 9th place and were imported worth INR 47581 crores.
  10. Fertilizers for increasing crop production and give a boost to agriculture was on 10th place and India imported fertilizers worth RS. 45973 crores.
