Google discontinuing Adsense plugin for WordPress

Google has decided to discontinue Adsense plugin for wordpress.  it will be done in 3 phases for existing user, new user and future users signing April on wards.

Important Dates

  • March, 2017: New publishers will not be able to sign up for AdSense by using the plugin. Google shall remove plugin from downloads and deactivate settings.
  • April, 2017: Existing publishers will not be able to change their ad settings or ad units through the plugin. It will be in static mode, if user do not want to change settings, it will work perfectly
  • May, 2017: Google will no longer provide support for the plugin. so if wordpress version is updated, google ad sense plugin may/can show error.

 

Suggestions for affecting publishers

For a better user experience on  site and to be able to make changes to your ad units, following these steps are recommended

  1. One must back up your WordPress site.
  2. Deactivate the official Plugin for WordPress.
  3. Create and place ad units by inserting the ad code in WordPress widgets:
    1. Go to https://www.google.com/adsense.
    2. Visit the My ads page.
    3. Create a new ad unit.
    4. Paste the ad code directly into text widgets in WordPress.
    5. Make sure your site stays compliant with the AdSense ad placement policies.
    6. Remove the official plugin completely.
  4. (Optional) To keep using the Google Search Console, make sure you verify your site.
