10 Mistakes that led to downfall of Oppo Smartphones in India

  1. Hiring Chinese team – Top management to lower management, Oppo is run by Chinese citizens. These Chinese citizens are neither good in local language nor in English.
  2. Think tank and decision makers are Chinese, with Zero local participation.
  3. 90% corporate executives are Chinese citizens who can not converse in local language or English. Indians are hired only as sales executives or team leaders.
  4. Chinese False Supremacy : Chinese believe they are far superior than their counter part Indians. Their behavior with employee and retailer are very bad and unacceptable.
  5. Too much policy and guide lines – For Oppo, Policy is everything. They fine heavily on retailers and distributors for minor violations.
  6. India is a free country, post GST business is on ease. Now One can buy in Karnataka and sell good in Delhi with no business barriers. However Oppo fine retailers if Oppo sold handset in Rajasthan and it is first used in Delhi. For Oppo, India is not one Nation, but it union of 30 sates.   8. Decreasing margins of retailers : Oppo has sponsored Indian cricket team for thousand crores rupees, however at same time it is decreasing margins to retailers. Retailers are moving to other brands that help them in increasing GMROI (Gross margin return on Investment).
  9. Oppo is getting 48% sale from Indian market, it is still apathetic to Indian sentiments. Result – Indians are against Chinese brands and agitating against Chinese goods.

  10. Oppo is lacking on golden management rule, Think Global and Act Local. Chinese handset makers has wiped out Samsung from China. They believe that they know everything about mobile handset business. Chinese assume that India need to copy what they did in China.

Oppo operates in 10k to 30 k price segment. Oppo’s cheapest smart phone is A37F. Oppo Offers A37f, A57, F1 Plus, F3, F3 plus and F1S 64 GB to consumers.  Oppo is getting tough competition from Xiaomi, Vivo and Samsung in smartphone segment.
